Fall Fashion Must Haves

And just like that it’s sweater season again and I’m freezing. Though I love the fall for the endless fashion opportunities, I am always searching for that little piece of sunlight in any room to keep me warm.

Here are some of my favorites pieces to wear through the fall and into winter.

The (Faux) Leather Legging

As some of you might know, I used to work as a personal stylist for Saks Fifth Avenue and Barneys New York. That experience taught me so many things - one of which is how to quickly put an outfit together - in the morning before you're late and accounting for the weather changing a million times during your commute.

Enter the Commando faux leather leggings. There are so many high street and luxury options for this type of pant but for me, it's this one. They were and still are my most worn item when it's cold out and you need to look put together but also want to be comfortable. They are super high waisted which is perfect if you have curves and a larger bum like me and want some sucking in. They are a pain to get on only the first time you try them and then they stretch out perfectly. I am 5’1’’ and they don’t even bunch at the ankle for me. Wear them with a bodysuit and long line blazer, or just throw on a large sweater and a pair of boots and you’re good. I have repurchased the black multiple times and have them in the cocoa color, the velvet version (so soft!) and the patent leather version….can you tell I love them?

The Sweater Dress

In my opinion it's the easiest way to dress in fall. Grab a pair of tights and an over the knee boot and you are out the door. I love sweater dresses in all varieties. If I’m feeling like I want to be more comfortable I will wear a looser version and when I am feeling like I want to show some curves I’ll do a more fitted style. Sweater dresses are also a great way to inject some color into your wardrobe.

The Camel Coat

I mean do I even need to convince you? It doesn't need to be a Max Mara, even though they are gorgeous, it's more about the fit and the color. Camel just looks beautiful with so many other fall colors (green, burgundy, deeper browns) and yet is so chic over an all black outfit. The main reason I love a camel coat is because it truly elevates absolutely anything you're wearing underneath. I have thrown my Missguided version (shown above) over leggings and a sweatshirt many times and instantly feel more put together.

The Over The Knee Boot

Specifically in the suede or faux suede variety. I would recommend both a flat and a block heeled over the knee boot. Not only do they keep your legs warm but they are the perfect compliment to fall dresses. They work with short dresses (that leave only a couple inches of skin between the hem and the top of the boot) or long dresses with a slit on the side, flowy or fitted, silk or knitwear - they work with so much. I would say a black first and then a brown/grey/neutral.

The Bootie

Last but not least is the bootie. Leather and suede are my favorites for a bootie and the color/texture possibilities are endless. I loved the Alexander Wang Gabi Boots to the end of their life and am so sad they are no longer in stock (I’ve seen them on reselling sites though) but a black leather ankle height bootie is so great for fall. I prefer a more pointed or almond toe as it elongates the leg. They can be worn with the leggings I mentioned above, jeans, dresses or skirts.
